Hello spring! In honor of the first day of spring, and no more snow days, we’ve compiled the 15 best things to do this spring. In no particular order.
1. Take your workout outside.
Nothing, and we mean nothing, beats an evening run while the sun is setting over the hudson.
2. Dine outside.
Whether it’s a barbecue, a picnic or just patio dining outside at a restaurant, spring time is the perfect time to indulge in some good food (we know we will) with some good friends in some good weather.
3. Go to a drive in.
We realize they might be kinda hard to find, since we don’t live in 1986. But outdoor movie nights seem to be a growing trend here in our cities. In New York Bryant Park hosts movies under the stars and in Miami South Beach hosts open-air movie nights.
4. Start your garden.
We know you’ve told people many a times, “I’m so going to start growing my own basil.” We’ll now’s your chance. We’re not saying grow a green thumb, but it might be fun to sprinkle a few seeds and see what happens.
5. Bake cupcakes.
We’ve all had those days, those I just want to stick my face in a bowl of cupcake batter kind of days. Well, we’re giving you permission to go ahead, dive in face first. Just be sure to leave some for the actual baking.
6. Wear a mini skirt.
Nothing says spring more than a mini skirt. Just make sure it flows like the wind, and comes in a shade of baby. We think baby blue’ll do just fine.
7. Walk for a purpose.
There’s a ton of charities out there. And most, if not all of them, have some sort of sponsored run. So go ahead, call your girlfriends, pick a charity, and burn those cupcake calories. This might be the only race where; if you win you win, but if you lose you still win.
8. Fly a kite.
We know it’s been a while, but we think you should go fly a kite. I mean, how freakin’ fun is it to let that thin piece of fabric go and watch it fly with the wind? And if that’s just not adventurous enough for you, we heard of this little thing called kite-surfing.
9. Go on a spur of the moment road trip.
Grab your girls or boys and just go. We’ve heard the Hamptons are nice this time of year. And Disney world is just so close, we can hear Harry Potter Land calling our names.
10. Order a fruity drink.
Winter is finally over, so it’s time to stop ordering those ‘warm me up drinks’. See ya next year whiskey, hello cosmo.
11. Go to the zoo.
Spring time is the perfect time to visit those cute caged animals. While we don’t condone animals raised in captivity, we can’t say it isn’t fun to watch the bears play. Oh, and monkeys are awesome. Seriously, they are awesome.
12. Take a walk.
Let’s be honest, sitting at a desk for 8 hours probably isn’t the highlight of your day. So use your lunch break to your advantage, it can serve as more than just a break to stuff your face full of yummy food. Spend 45 minutes eating and 15 walking your office neighborhood. Not only will you burn some lunch calories, but you might just find the perfect pair of shoes for your date on Friday night.
13. Visit a Flea Market.
This can only be done when the weather is perfect, because if it’s snowing then it’s too cold, and if it’s summer then it’s too hot. Enter spring, and it’s all a round perfectness. Just yesterday we heard a story about a woman who bought a bowl for $3 and sold it at an auction for $2.2 million. True story. Read about it here. Now we’d say that’s a return on her investment.
14. Find a spring soundtrack.
Something that is soft yet upbeat and speaks directly to your soul. Some of our recommendations are; Soft Swell’s self entitled album Soft Swells and Jules Larson’s newest masterpiece, Let’s Stay Young.
15. 30 second dance parties.
They.Are.Awesome. Almost as awesome as monkeys. Almost. So play your new spring soundtrack and dance like winter is over, dance like no more pea coats, dance like no more winter boots, dance like you can finally start getting pedicures again, and people other than your roommates and hubby will be able to see them. Hello espadrilles.
We hope you enjoyed! Now go out and LIVE.
