Charming Restaurant August Re-Opens in New Location
New York, you did it again! You raised rent and pushed out one of our favorite date spots in West Village. Luckily, former West Village gem August found new home in the cozy Upper East Side neighborhood (791 Lexington Ave, between 61st and 62nd St)! Re-opened after the restaurant briefly shuttered in June 2014, the restaurant’s new menu will include some of the same signature dishes Chef Josh Eden’s fans have grown to love, as well as new items added to his seasonal American menu.
The original restaurant opened in 2004 and has helmed many talented chefs including Terrence Gallivan and Jordan Frosolone prior to Eden. The new menu will feature August favorite entrees like the Braised Short Ribs with Honey Sriracha Brussels Sprouts..
Peekytoe Crab with Pistachio Puree, Broccoli and Ponzu
As well as new dishes, such as Shrimp a la plancha…
And Sea Bass!
The 72-seat restaurant channels the airy spirit of its former location, featuring walls of white-washed brick decorated with eclectic art, mirrors and staghorn ferns to evoke the comfort of someone’s home. Upon entering, a pre-deco white Carrera marble bar-top offers a spot to enjoy a drink or a bite, while zinc tabletops and crème-colored booths throughout the dining room offer a sleek yet warm ambience. In warmer months, the restaurant’s window-paneled doors open to offer an al-fresco experience for the front tables, spilling out onto the sidewalk.
The beverage program includes a selection of signature and barrel-aged cocktails from mixologist Jonathan Dalin that play off the seasonal flavors of Eden’s menu.
August is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, with brunch on the weekends. Lunch and brunch are offered from 11:30am-3:00pm, and dinner service runs Monday-Friday from 5:30pm-10:00pm, Friday & Saturday from 5:30pm-10:30pm and Sunday from 5:00pm-9:00pm.
