Rock Star Progenies: strong, sexy and demure inspire the Jay Godfrey fall 2014 collection. This is Jay’s first time showing at NYFW, and we can’t wait to see his youthful looks! The New York-based designer started the collection based from the chic New York woman with a goal to meld classic tailoring techniques of Savile Row with modern silhouettes and luxury fabrics.
Godfrey realized his dream of becoming a designer while working his first summer job at Hugo Boss. He studied finance at Montreal’s McGill University in order to gain a grounding in business and accounting. Upon graduating, Godfrey headed to Wall Street and worked for Citigroup. While learning the finer points of finance, Jay’s goal of designing a collection led him to Parsons School of Design. An internship with Oscar de la Renta fine-tuned the young designer’s style and technique, and helped him determine the ultimate Jay Godfrey woman.
Godfrey has quickly cultivated his signature aesthetic which perfectly lends itself to the fashion-forward and glamorous woman. His designs have captured a loyal celebrity following including Eva Longoria, Emma Stone, Jennifer Lopez, Eva Mendes, Angie Harmon, Eve, Leighton Meester, Petra Nemcova, and Sarah Michelle Geller.
Godfrey’s collection sold in Bergdorf Goodman, Intermix, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, and Holt Renfrew, with his flagship boutique located in NYC.
The collection at New York Fashion Week will be very rock and roll, inspired by the chic style of daughters of famous rockers. Godfrey effortlessly translates the 70’s rock ‘n’ roll spirit into edgy prints and rich textures, creating body conscious silhouettes. Modernized rock staples of standout shifts, flirty miniskirts, bold and unexpected bomber jackets, and sleek jumpsuits move with the ease of stretch jacquard, ultra suede and bouclé. Black in all its magnificence anchors the palette and is highlighted by a velvety burgundy wine, subtle olive and deep indigo. Vibrant fringe, stud and zipper detailing along with shots of metallic sequin are foundational to the collection, drawing out a classic rock ‘n’ roller aesthetic that is reminiscent yet undeniably modern.
