Try These Whimsical Dishes at New Lower East Side Brunch Spot
With silly dishes like, “Yesterday’s Lo Mein” and “Something Wrapped in Bacon on a Toothpick,” you can’t help but wonder..did I just walk into the coolest restaurant ever?! Yes, there’s a bit of mystery and humor to the menu at Clanceyin the Lower East Side, but more importantly innovation in their execution.
Recently, I had the opportunity to try their new brunch, which is filled with an assortment of upscale comfort food and the best of all– A BOURBON BLOODY MARY! Omg. The alcohol gods finally blessed me after a lifetime of drinking regular vodka ones and tequila Bloody Marias. Bleh. The Bourbon Bloody Mary is enough for a second visit, but let me break down the dishes.
My boyfriend loved, loved, loved the Char Grilled Oysters cooked in shell on a chargrill with garlic butter, breadcrumbs and pecorino and served with charred lemon and bread for dipping– which we absolutely did.
Obviously, we had to order the mysterious, “Something Wrapped in Bacon on a Toothpick” appetizer, which happened to be sweet and sour shrimp this time–yum!
I also made him order the Truffle Grilled Cheese with Asparagus because it’s a Truffle Grilled Cheese with Asparagus, duh.
While I opted for the Obligatory Double Cheeseburger, which had a nice char consisted of two 4 Oz Patties, sautéed onions, white cheddar on a potato bun (my favorite) with Cajun lemon pecorino French fries and house made pickle.
We washed down the dishes with a second round of the Bloody Mary’s because they were excellent and decided to make plans to come back to try the Oyster Omelette with Scallions and Ponzu, the FAT Pancake with apple, pear and dulce de leche– oh and also the Fried Chicken and Challah French Toast because it’s Sunday, Challah!
