Restaurants Are Bringing South-Of-The-Border Fiestas To New York This Cinco De Mayo

Between Derby Day parties and Cinco De Mayo celebrations, your major fiesta will turn into a siesta by the end of the weekend. At The Gander, acclaimed chef Jesse Schenker showcases his imaginative approach to new-American cuisine. This Cinco de Mayo, starting at 4:30 and continuing through the evening, Jesse will open up the sliding glass windows to create an urban taco truck serving up tacos to guests inside the restaurant as well as those walking down the street. Handmade tortillas will be made to order with filling options of Confit Pulled Pork in Adobo with habanero and lime pickled onions or Braised Chicken with tomatillo cilantro and cojita cheese for $5 each. In addition, The Gander will offer a “La Jarocha” a Jalapeño infused tequila cocktail with cilantro, lime, agave and espelette for $14.
Chef Robert Stauning offers an authentic and market-driven Mexican menu inspired by travels abroad, particularly traditional Mexican street fare. Embracing the surrounding neighborhood, Gran Electrica also offers a intimate outdoor garden for dining or casual drinks with twinkling lights hung above, walls covered in ivy and a breathtaking view of the Brooklyn Bridge. For Cinco de Mayo, Gran Electrica is hosting a day long party with extended hours, a DJ, and drink specials. Chef Rob will also be slow-cooking meat outside in the garden, which has recently been renovated for the season.
The Meatball Shop is the fan-favorite meatball empire where diners can enjoy a mix-and-match menu of meatballs, sauces, seasonal sides and house made ice cream sandwiches. To celebrate Cinco de Mayo, The Meatball Shop will offer half-priced margaritas including their Black and Blue Margarita which features El Jimador Silver Tequila, blackberry, blueberry, and lime.
The tequila-driven restaurant and bar will be offering food & drink inspired by the vibrant culture of Mexico. The fiesta will also include a Live DJ, Balloon Twisting, Face Painting and a Mariachi Band. Guests are invited to enjoy the festivities from 11 am to midnight and throughout the entire venue including the main dining room, al fresco and the downstairs lounge Abajo. Also, head downstairs in their new lounge to enjoy specialty cocktails offered on Cinco de Mayo created by William Aporih.
