THE STARS COME OUT TO CELEBRATE THE ARTS AT GORDON PARKS FOUNDATION 10TH ANNIVESARY GALA
Tonight at Cipriani 42nd Street location, stars will come together to honor the arts! Of all kinds from artists, musicians, filmmakers, designers, and patrons of the arts and to fundraise for The Gordon Parks Foundation scholarships and programming. The most prestigious event of the gala season will celebrate its 10th Anniversary while celebrating the legacy of African-American philanthropist Gordon Parks . At this year’s event, Estée Lauder chairman Leonard Lauder and wife Judy Glickman Lauder will be presented with the Patron of the Arts Award and will unveil the iconic photograph that Gordon Parks took of Kathleen Cleaver and Eldridge Cleaver — former Black Panther Leader -for the first time ever in color.
Co-chaired by Karl Lagerfeld, Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz, Usher IV and Grace Raymond, Nejma and Peter Beard, this year’s event will honor Founders of Public School & Creative Directors of DKNY Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow, LaToya Ruby Frazier, Janelle Monae, and Bryan Stevenson, + will feature a live auction of Parks’ work, an awards ceremony celebrating Leonard Lauder and Judy Glickman Lauder, and the unveiling of the iconic photograph that Gordon Parks took of Kathleen Cleaver and Eldridge Cleaver -- former Black Panther Leader -for the first time ever in color.
With Cleaver being one of the central figures of the Black Panther Party, the largest Black revolutionary organization that has ever existed, and Gordon Parks being an icon of the Civil Rights photography, this momentous occasion brings the unveiling full circle for the Anniversary. Cleaver will be attending the event for the unveiling along with other celebrities and artists, including KASSEEM “SWIZZ BEATZ” DEAN, FKA TWIGS, MAXWELL OSBORNE, DAO-YI CHOW, ALICIA KEYS, USHER, JANELLE MONAE, ANDERSON COOPER, LATOYA RUBY FRAZIER, BRYAN STEVENSON, ROBERT DE NIRO, GRACE HIGHTOWER DE NIRO, HARRY BELAFONTE, ALEXANDER SOROS, LEONARD LAUDER, JUDY GLICKMAN LAUDER, RUSSELL SIMMONS, GAYLE KING, TOM CAMPBELLand more.
This year’s musical performance by the Late Show With Stephen Colbert‘s bandleader JON BATISTE & STAY HUMANwill be moving and a night to remember.
Last year, The Gordon Parks Patron of the Arts Award went to Robert De Niro and Grace Hightower. Hightower received the coveted award for their work with Bring Change 2 Mind, Autism Speaks, and JobPath. De Niro received the award for his longstanding career and founding his production company, Tribeca Productions, the Tribeca Film Center (which he founded with Jane Rosenthal in 1988), and in the Tribeca Film Festival, which he founded with Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff, (the festival was conceived to foster the economic and cultural revitalization of Lower Manhattan through an annual celebration of film, music, and culture).

Additionally, last year the crowd enjoyed a performance by Pharrell Williams who got everyone feeling ‘Happy’ with an after party DJ Set by Swizz Beatz for an all-around celebratory evening.
